Matthew Stafford was drafted by the Lions during 2009 NFL Draft. Prior to being drafted by the Lions, Stafford played college football at the University of Georgia. He was born in Tampa Florida on February 7, 1988. He grew up in Dunwoody, Georgia with his parents Matthew and Margaret Stafford. After his father completed graduate school at the University of Georgia, the family moved to Dallas, Texas where Matthew Jr attended Highland Park High School and was coached by Randy Allen. Allen was considered to be one of the best high school quarterbacks in the United States in the Class of 2006. During the 2002 playoffs over Sulphur Springs High School, Stafford made his varsity debut. He also lettered in baseball, and one of his teammates was the forthcoming Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw.
